Hunter Young Professionals (hyp) was founded in 1993 as the Newcastle & Hunter Junior Chamber of Commerce as an affiliation of the Hunter Business Chamber. In 2010, the group then shortened its name to the acronym, NHJC. However, as NHJC and the Hunter Business Chamber began to run independently of each other, the NHJC audience changed, and these affiliations gradually ceased.
In July 2013, the networking group was re-branded as Hunter Young Professionals Incorporated, or hyp for short. This change of name symbolised the growth and expansion of HYP and its members since 2010. The name ‘hyp’ was chosen as an all-encompassing name to include young professionals in all industry sectors from across the Hunter region. The rebranding signified an exciting new horizon for hyp that encouraged the strengthening of existing relationships, and provided a framework for a new generation of leaders to emerge. It also reflected the group’s commitment to be a ‘network for a new generation’, which continues today.
The organisational branding was updated in 2013 to launch itself into a new market, but still ensured that the legacy of the past was not forgotten. The circular logo highlights inclusion of members from all areas, the colouring symbolises a harmonious environment, and the triangles in the background provides reference to the networks of the group and the wider community.
